Groundwater CONTROL Field Testing, Monitoring and Modelling

DURHAM MODEL AQUIFER PUMP TEST

Friday 23 March 2018 @ 09:00 – 16:30

OGI Groundwater Specialists, DURHAM, UK

DURHAM MODEL AQUIFER

To provide a teaching resource for Hydrogeologists & Groundwater Engineers, here outside OGI’s office in Durham, we have built a 26m long, 1500mm deep, 700mm wide model aquifer. The DMA is excavated from silt clay made ground, and had been filled with medium sand. This week we are undertaking a two-hour pumping test. Pumping will take place from a pumping well at the end of the aquifer, with drawdown measured at 4-5 other locations by pre-placed piezometers.

As a bit of fun, would anyone like to back-calculate the average permeability and specific yield? We can have a competition who can come the closest. We will publish the data on our website, together with the back-analysis by students from the City University of London who are visiting Friday.
